Maharashtra has a total of four agricultural universities. To ensure effective coordination and uniformity among these four institutions, the Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research was established on 10 September 1984.
The Council has been entrusted with the responsibility of reviewing, evaluating, supervising, and guiding the activities of the agricultural universities. The headquarters of the Council is located in Pune.
To make the functioning of the Council more effective, its activities have been organized into three major departments: Education, Research, and Extension Education.
At regular intervals, meetings of the Council are held to review the activities and performance of the agricultural universities. During these meetings, strategic decisions and action plans are formulated for future activities and implementation.
The Council has been working continuously for the past 25 years towards the development of agriculture and the overall progress and welfare of farmers. When an institution continues to function successfully for twenty-five years, it clearly demonstrates that the institution fulfills an important need of society.
If the agricultural sector is to contribute to the development of the state as well as the nation, institutions such as the Council must take a strong and meaningful role. The Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research is performing exactly this responsibility.
The Council continuously undertakes and implements various initiatives for the welfare and benefit of farmers. Another important and noteworthy achievement, of which everyone can be proud, is that it is the first institution in India to take a pioneering leadership role in the fields of agricultural education, research, and extension.
